Sat. February 4 - Greet the day by making sandwiches with a group of early risers for Martha’s Table. Start time is 8:30 AM in the Marvin kitchen. Contact Ken Parr for additional information.
Sat. February 4 - leadership retreat from 10-1 in the Woodside Fellowship Hall. All leaders and committee members should mark their calendar for this event. Rev. Rachel has additional information.
Sun.February 5 – “Souper” Bowl Sunday. After worship at Marvin and Woodside the youth will be collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations to support the food ministry of the Cooperative Parish. Items such as peanut butter, jelly, rice (in 1 lb bags), and cereal are greatly needed by Arleeta’s pantry. Let us fill the soup bowl to overflowing.
Sun. February 5 - Young Adult Super Bowl Party from 5-8 at Rev. Kirkland’s home.
Tues. February 7 - Cooperative Parish serves at the Shepherd’s Table. Contact Tijuana Irons for additional information.
Sun. February 12 - Scout Sunday. This is the Sunday to recognize the Boy and Girl Scout troops that meet in our buildings. Scouts of all ages are invited to wear their uniforms!
Tues. February 14 - Celebrate Valentine’s Day by volunteering at the Mobile Food Pantry between 2 and 5. Our guests are served at 3:00 with most of the distribution taking place during the 1st hour. This takes place in the driveway of Marvin church.
Sat. February 18 - Voices of Praise trip to New York City to see “Sister Act”.
Sat. February 18 – Arleeta’s Pantry training for new volunteers; 10 AM; Woodside Blue Room.
Sun. February 19-22 – Community Based Shelter week. Volunteers are needed to cook and deliver dinner, serve dinner at the shelter, and prepare the lunches for the residents of this women’s shelter in Rockville. The donation plates are posted in the narthex of each church to indicate what goods are needed for the lunches and the shelter’s pantry.
Tues. February 21 - Mardi Gras Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 5-7 at Woodside fellowship hall. Come celebrate with breakfast for dinner! All proceeds will support the fall Men’s retreat.
Wed. February 22 – Ash Wednesday. Service of communion and imposition of ashes at Marvin at 11:30 AM following the prayer group session. An evening service at Hughes UMC, 10700 Georgia Avenue, at 7:30 PM will be a community service with the combined choirs participating in this service.
Sun. March 4 – Nan McCurdy, UM missionary to Nicaragua, will speak to the Kids with Purpose and Youth Group and their families at Marvin.
April 1 – Palm Sunday
April 8 – Easter Sunday
June 18-22 - Vacation Bible School at Woodside for children from ages 3-12. Teachers and helpers are needed for this growing program. If you would like to be part of the planning team or work at VBS, contact Marie Matthews at mmatthews@silverspringumcp.org .
July 15-20 - Youth Mission Trip to West River Center for those in grades 6-12.
